How to know the IMEI code of your phone and what is it used for?

How to know your phone’s IMEI code and what it is used for: IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity and helps to identify a specific phone on all mobile networks. Think of it as your phone’s security number, or a fingerprint. It is a 14 – 17 digit number that allows networks to identify a phone and obtain information about what type of phone it is, including where it was manufactured and its model.

The IMEI number is also used to know which company the cell phone belongs to, to know when you bought the cell phone. It is a very important code that we cannot lose sight of, however, most people tend to lose the box where this code is indicated. If this is your case, don’t worry! How can I find out my IMEI number on my Smartphone?


The first place to look is in the box of your phone, don’t you have it? It’s all right. Fortunately, you can quickly find your phone’s IMEI number without the box. How? Go to your cell phone settings. As the settings of an Android phone are usually different depending on the model or brand, there is no fixed path. But if you type “IMEI” at the top of the search bar, you’ll find the number in a jiffy.


As in the previous case you should look in the original box of your Iphone, usually appears on the back. If you do not have this box you can find your IMEI in the settings section:

  • Open settings.

You can also find it through the Finder program (Mac). You will need to plug your iPhone into your Mac and open this program. Once opened you will find the IMEI in the ”general” tab.

Universal method

If after applying the above methods you still have not found the IMEI there is a simpler way that works for any device. To do this, go to the call menu and type *#06#. After this, the IMEI number of your device will immediately appear on your screen.

My phone only shows one MEID number

A MEID number and an IMEI are essentially the same thing. Some devices and networks use MEID numbers instead, which have 14 digits instead of 17. MEID stands for “Mobile Equipment Identifier”.

Why do I have two IMEI numbers?
